Shadow Knights: The Shogun of Death (or Budō: The Art of Ninja Combat!) is a side-scrolling action platform game that looks and plays like the early Ninja Gaiden. The game was developed by id-Software and published by Softdisk in 1991 for the PC (MS-DOS) computers.

Shadow KnightsSTORY / GAMEPLAY
Shadow Knights takes place somewhere in the Ancient Japan where a young boy leaves his home and follows a Ninja clan to train as a mighty assassin. 20 years later, the peaceful town is overrun by evil Ninjas. You are chosen to fight your way through nine different (and tough) levels t oeliminate the threat. Shadow Knight's gameplay is action platform typical since you run and jump onto various platforms before confronting the final boss. In each level, you'll encounter lots of enemies mainly dogs, armed ninjas and archers. You only carry a sword and a limited amount of Shurikens. The enemies are positioned strategically to everytime trouble you in your left to right trudging on. Throughout you quest you can collect orbs: The Red ones will fill your magic gauge, the Yellow will increase your magic partially, the Pink will give you an extra life and the Green will heal you.
The game runs in both Windows and DOS! This game offers great action and fun, reminding us of other top-notch titles like the famous Ninja Gaiden.

GRAPHICS / SOUND
The graphics engine was developed by the famous id-Software (Doom anyone?) Shadow Knights was released for Intel 286 CPU-based PCs (386 or higher recommended) and runs in EGA mode (with 16 colors on-screen). Its visuals are nice although they look a little "old"! The levels have their own unique style and design and everything runs fast and smooth! As for the sound, it consists of some typical chip sound effects that sometimes are too loud for your ears.
